2027 Veterinary Science Camps

The Zoo’s veterinary staff will offer four veterinary science camps in 2027. Each camps will accept 22 qualified campers. Prospective campers must complete the application process before their applications will be reviewed. Once an application is complete, qualified campers are admitted on a first-come-first-served basis.

These one-of-a-kind veterinary camps bring young people to the Zoo to explore a future career in veterinary medicine. Campers practice basic veterinary procedures—giving physical exams, administering CPR, trying sutures, and more—and explore some of the specialized skills veterinarians use to care for non-domestic animals. Most sessions are taught in the Zoo’s veterinary center.

Our single-day Junior Camps are suitable for rising 7th through 9th graders. The two-day overnight Senior Camps are suitable for tenth graders through first-year college students.

Questions/More Information

Please contact zoocamps@nczoo.com with any questions regarding veterinary camps.

Camp fees cover all expenses. A large portion of the admission fee is tax-deductible as a donation to the NC Zoo Society, the private, non-profit organization that raises money for the NC Zoo. Proceeds support the NC Zoo's Veterinary programs. Fees may be paid in installments. Non-member campers are provided with a Zoo Society membership when camp tuition is paid.

Camp Information

Campers check in at the Valerie H. Schindler Wildlife Learning Center (2663 Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, NC).

Most classes take place a short walk from the Schindler Center, at the Zoo's Veterinary Hospital Complex. Students from NC State Veterinary School serve as counselors, assist with teaching, and confer with campers about veterinary school.
