Veterinary Experiences
Sorry, we have sold out of our 2023 Shadow A a Veterinarian experiences.
Our web store will begin selling the Zoo's 2024 Shadow a Veterinarian experiences at the end of October 2023.
Shadow a Veterinarian for a Day.
Masks and other COVID-19 protections may be required for this program.
We offer one Shadow a Veterinarian for a Day experience each month between March 1 and October 31. This program must be scheduled during the regular workweek (Monday through Friday) on a date that is acceptable to the veterinarian and to the tour-goer.
The program cost of $575 for Zoo Society members and $595 for non-members provides Zoo admission, a full-day experience with the Zoo Veterinarian, lunch, and a $550 tax-deductible donation to the North Carolina Zoological Society, the private 501(c)3 non-profit that raises funds for the North Carolina Zoo. These proceeds support the needs of the Zoo's veterinary hospital.
Shadow a Veterinarian For Two
Masks and other COVID-19 protocols may be required.
All Shadow a Veterinarian for Two experiences are available on weekends only—either Saturday or Sunday on a date that is acceptable for our guests and to the Zoo's veterinarian staff. Participants spend four hours with one of the Zoo veterinarians and accompany the veterinarian on rounds behind the scenes at the North Carolina Zoo. During rounds, participants visit behind the scenes areas with the veterinarian.
After rounds, participants return to the vet hospital to enjoy a pizza lunch while chatting with the veterinarian and other staff. An optional golf cart tour is available after lunch.
The program cost of $575 for Zoo Society members and $595 for non-members provides Zoo admission for two, a four-hour experience with the Zoo Veterinarian, lunch, and a golf cart tour of the Zoo after lunch (if requested). The payment provides a $550 tax-deductible donation to the North Carolina Zoological Society, the private 501(c)3 non-profit that raises funds for the North Carolina Zoo. These proceeds support the needs of the Zoo's veterinary hospital.
We work with participants to set a tour date acceptable to them and to Dr. Minter.
Lunch and Learn With a Zoo Veterinarian
As of June 1, 2021, we are resuming this popular program.
Limited to two participants, this experience pairs tour-goers with Dr. Jb Minter, the Zoo's Director of Animal Health and Chief Veterinarian, to talk over lunch and take part in a tour of the Zoo's Hanes Veterinary Hospital and the Valerie H. Schindler Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Masks and other COVID restrictions may apply.
Lunch and Learn programs are scheduled during the regular work week (Monday - Friday) on a date that is acceptable to the veterinarian and the participants. This program is available to adults 16 years old or older.
The program cost of $350 for Zoo Society members and $375 for non-members provides Zoo admission, lunch, and a Lunch and Learn experience for two people. The cost of the program includes a $300 tax-deductible donation to the North Carolina Zoo Society, the private, 501(c)3) non-profit that raises money for the North Carolina Zoo. This donation will be used to support the Zoo's veterinary needs.
