Your Information is Not Shared

The NC Zoo Society does not sell or rent our members', donors' or Internet users' personal information to other organizations.

Joining the Zoo Society online gives you access to all of the benefits and privileges afforded our other members, including inside information on the Zoo, invitations to special events and a subscription to Alive, the Society's full-color, quarterly magazine.


The Zoo Society Website incorporates security measures to protect you from the loss, the misuse and the alteration of information under our control. The Zoo Society's on-line transaction systems use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption in order to protect your info as it traverses the web. We recommend that you always try to use our Secure Mode when placing an order. You will not be able to use Secure Mode if you use an Internet browser that does not support secure transactions or if your computer functions through a local area network (LAN) with a firewall that prevents secure transactions. In this case, you can ask your network system administrator to configure Port 443 for secure transactions. If you cannot use the Secure Mode, you can use our Standard Mode, but we recommend that you order using one of our offline order options (telephone, FAX, or postal mail).


To become a member of the Zoo Society, you will fill out a form that asks for contact information, including your name, address, e-mail address and, for family memberships, the number of people in your family. We use this information to mail you your membership card, your magazine and special invitations to Zoo events. None of this information will be sold, rented or otherwise made available to a third party.

Use of Information

The Zoo Society does not collect any identifying information on you except what you specifically and knowingly provide: your name, address, e-mail address, phone number, and family size (for family memberships information). We never sell or share personal information about you or any of our users. At times, the Zoo Society may share summary statistics about our customers, sales, traffic patterns and related site information to a reputable third-party vendor, but this information will never include any personally identifying information about you or any other person.

The Zoo Society always provides you with the opportunity to stop receiving communications from us. If at any time the Zoo Society is required by law or by a legal process to release customer information, we must cooperate fully.


When you visit our Web site, we identify your Web browser with a "cookie" that gives you a unique number. That cookie does not tell us anything about you personally, but it lets us keep track of your order and saves your purchasing information for the next time that you visit the site. The cookie stores only information that you give us when placing your order.

Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies like ours, but most Web browsers also allow you to change the configuration of your browser to keep the cookies out. If you decided to exclude our cookie, we still invite you to use our Web site, and you can still purchase any item online. Our server will just not recognize you as an old friend when you visit us again.

Order Information

We ask you to fill out an order form when you request information, products, and services. The form will record contact information (like your mailing and e-mail address) and financial information (like your account and credit card numbers). We use the contact information to fill your order and communicate with you when necessary. The Society uses the financial information to bill you for products or services that you order. Customers also have the option of ordering products over the telephone or by FAX; customers may also elect to pay by check rather than with a credit card.
