2024 Veterinary Science Camps

Great news! The Zoo’s veterinary staff plans to, once again, offer its onsite veterinary camps. We will be accepting 22 campers to each of our 4 camps, and eligible campers will be admitted in the order that they complete the application process.
These one-of-a-kind veterinary camps bring young people to the Zoo to explore a future career in veterinary medicine. Campers practice basic veterinary procedures—giving physical exams, administering CPR, trying sutures, and more—and explore some of the specialized skills veterinarians use to care for wild animals. Most sessions are taught in the Zoo's veterinary center.

Our single-day Junior Camps are suitable for rising 7th through 9th graders. Our overnight Senior Camps are suitable for ten graders through first-year college students.

Questions/More Information

Please contact zoocamps@nczoo.com with any questions regarding veterinary camps.

Camp fees cover all expenses. A large portion of the admission fee is tax-deductible as a donation to the NC Zoo Society, the private, non-profit organization that raises money for the NC Zoo. Proceeds support the NC Zoo's Veterinary programs. Fees may be paid in installments. Non-member campers are provided with a Zoo Society membership when camp tuition is paid.

Our Commitment to Safety

Campers check in at the Valerie H. Schindler Wildlife Learning Center (2663 Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, NC).  Most classes take place a short walk from the Schindler Center, at the Zoo's Veterinary Hospital Complex. Students from NC State Veterinary School serve as counselors, assist with teaching, and confer with campers about veterinary school. COVID PROTOCOLS DURING CAMP: Campers may be required to wear masks during some indoor activities except when actively drinking or eating.
