Support the Zoo's Most Pressing Needs!

On August 2, 2024, the Zoo turned 50! It reached this milestone while in the middle of the most daring expansion in its history: adding three new continental regions to its existing African and North American sections. Phase 1 of this major capital development program is almost complete. Asia will open in 2026, adding tigers, Komodo Dragons, gibbons, and other animals to the Zoo.
While staff prepares for this opening, it is also fleshing out masterplans for adding Australian and South American clusters to the Park and building a state-of-the-art tropical aviary to replace the RJ Reynolds Aviary that retired in 2024. These additions will take at least five years to complete as the Zoo also expands its parking lots and adds more wildlife encounters for guests to experience.

Keeping Things Going While the Zoo Keeps Growing

The Zoo depends on the public—teachers, businesses, families, and foundations—as well as the state government to keep growing and serving the public. Every visit, every membership, and every donation confirm the value you place on the educational, economic, and recreational contributions the Zoo makes to our communities.
This support—your support is vital to the Zoo’s future. During this time of immense growth and planning, we ask you to make a year-end gif to support the Zoo’s most pressing needs. That way, the Zoo Society can ensure that your donation will used where it will do the most good. It will be available if the Zoo needs to act quickly to unforeseen circumstances, like a deadly storm. Or the Zoo can invest in conservation and animal wellbeing projects that do not receive state funding.
Thank you for visiting the Zoo and for supporting its many vital programs.
